Wheelchair by Caspar Schmitz can Navigate Steps

September 22nd, 2008

People using wheelchairs face a list of problems and the one topmost on their mind is navigating steps. Caspar Schmitz has designed a wheelchair that would easily take care of this problem, provided the user has a strong pair of arms. The wheelchair walks off the traditional path in being created out of polyurethane (a plastic) and also elastic. It is also designed to provide the user with a greater sense of balance, apart from looking unlike any other wheelchair.

The vehicle appears quite futuristic and is designed so that the circular wheels would transform into ellipsoids on applying vertical pressure to the handlebar. This would give the user the opportunity to navigate steps and other obstacles easily. This means that a person having to spend time in a wheelchair would not require the assistance of another person when handling stairs and can go around their house and neighbourhood on their own and whenever they wish.
