Coll-Barreu Bring Back Cubist Design To Architectural Designs

October 2nd, 2008

The rebel state of Basque has always been in news. However this time, Basque is in news for a different news altogether. The Coll-Barreu architects have designed the health department headquarters of Bilbao, the capital city of Basque. The building is designed on the principles of cubism.

Cubism was a design and art movement from the modern era of the early 20th century. The building however is built in a cubist facade of glass and the facade is also the structure’s double skin frame. This insulates the building and the basement would contain a 150-seater auditorium. The design is cool, chic and not something that we would expect of a health department.

I would say, the designers of the health department have brought back the age old cubist theories back into force and the architectural wonder will surely make many to wish to visit the health department.
