Kure: Intimate Dining Enclosure by Fatih Can Sarıöz
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 |Tags: Dining table set, Fatih Can Sarıöz, Furniture, Kure
Turkish designer Fatih Can Sarıöz does not just worry about making his designs beautiful and practical. He makes artistic creations that are imbibed into everyone’s lives, becoming an uindispensable part of it. His latest design of a dinner table set that sets an atmosphere of a family within their own protective cocoon is testimony to this fact.
Industrial and interior designer Sarıöz’s dining table set, named Kure, appears like a shiny sphere which blossoms opens into a dining table with overhead light and six matching chairs. The roof-part of the Kure which slides up to open the sphere encloses within its centre lights for the enclosure, and the base is also fitted with dimly glowing blue lights. The chairs can also be pulled away for an intimate seating arrangement without the barrier of a table between family and friends. The Kure is a great idea when it comes to saving space and also looks chic enough to be sitting inside the mess of a futuristic space-ship.

Finding the right table and chair for your work can become such a difficult thing. When you find the perfect table, it doesn’t go with the style of the perfect chair. Or they just are not good enough.
Cast your tired eyes upon the Globus and thank the heavens because this beautiful shiny white globe would be the best chair and table ensemble you would ever find. Rainbow Desk by Allan Lake
Saturday, September 27th, 2008 |Tags: Allan Lake, desk, Furniture, maarten baas, Rainbow Desk

A rainbow does not necessarily need to have seven colours mixing into one another. It shows colours blending into one another without any borders, and the beauty of a rainbow is as much in its colours as it is in its curves.
The Rainbow Desk appears to take all this into consideration in being a desk full of curves. Designed by Allan Lake, the desk is reminiscent of the Sculpt Design furniture by Maarten Baas. These objects are made from numerous curves with not a single straight line, giving the viewer a sense of wavering lines and structures that seem to change in size every second. The desk looks both artistic and simple and is made from British native hardwoods.
The Rainbow Desk has three drawers, each curving in shape to be slightly smaller than its predecessor. The handles and legs look beautiful in almost every hue of brown to be found in woods.

Cowboy Junkie: Saddle Seat for Cowboy Wannabe’s
Monday, September 22nd, 2008 |Tags: barstool, Chair, Cowboy, Cowboy Junkie, fernando akasaka, Furniture, Saddle, seat

Emulating men from old western classics with rooting-tooting cowboys on black stallions chasing cows may be your biggest fantasy. Perhaps you have never ridden a horse in your life but who cares when you know you are still a cowboy at heart. The Cowboy Junkie is a seat designed by Brazilian Fernando Akasaka and it looks like a leather saddle sitting on a stick.
The black leather saddle sits atop a stool so that you can pretend you are a real cowboy riding high upon your horse. The saddle even has shiny steel stirrups hanging from the sides for an extra realistic look. This saddle seat would not look very out of place in the right setting at your home and would look great at a bar. You can fulfil your cowboy fantasies by getting yourself the Cowboy Junkie at Akasaka’s official site.

Sqoosh Seat by Kimming Yap
Monday, September 22nd, 2008 |Tags: Bench, creativeans, Furniture, Kimming Yap, Sqoosh

Waiting rooms are quite unpopular with people, especially because of the seating arrangement where people are required to sit next to strangers, sometimes squashed against them in uncomfortably crowded spaces. Creativeans Studio has always had a host of creative ideas for problems such as this and Kimming Yap, one of the leaders of the studio, has come up with a solution in the form of Sqoosh. Sqoosh is a hip looking backless seat that would be quite perfect for waiting rooms.
Yap reports that the wave like design of the Sqoosh seat was inspired by the ‘upward trend of anti-socialism’. Each Sqoosh seat has a bunch of waves right in the middle of it so that strangers would be separated by space that can easily occupy magazines. Made of fibreglass, Sqoosh is available in blue, pink neon and pearly white. You can check out the rates and order them for your office waiting room or even your home at the Creativeans site.

Play Pong on the LED Coffee Table by Spark Fun
Sunday, September 14th, 2008 |Tags: coffee table, game, maker faire, Pong, Spark Fun, Table

The latest rage in the design world is the concept of hybridisation; taking one gadget and mixing it up with another so that you are left with a multi-functional gadget. The idea isn’t just practical but the result also comes out with the positives of both products and looks much cooler than either of the originals. Furniture seems to be walking the same path. We recently heard of the trampoline coffee table that surprised a lot of people. Now Spark Fun offers us an LED Coffee Table with which we can play Pong.
The LED Coffee Table is an all-black contraption with which four players can play a game of Pong. The table, which took Spark Fun two years to build, will make an appearance at Maker Faire Austin this fall. The device is built with 64 RGB serial matrices, 4 Atari controllers and the surface of the table is made from an LPC2106 dev board. Now when you have friends over and the beers are over and the coffee is cold, you can always while away the time with a game of Pong.

FormTank Unveils 2d3d Tables
Friday, September 12th, 2008 |Tags: 2d3d, FormTank, Industrial Design, Metal Origami, Tables

We have always been covering interesting furniture designs and this has to be one of the most interesting we have covered so far. FormTank recently launched 2d3d tables, and is a London based design company. The table looks slightly industrial, and quite beautiful. The table is cut from a single sheet of steel and is then folded into a position as can be seen in the final product.
This may remind you of metal origami and is sustainable and also reduces transportation and manufacturing costs. Very little steel that is used is discarded and you could be rest assured that you are not harming the environment with this stylish and industrial looking table. The table appears neat, clean and is ergonomic and would accentuate the chicness of your space. The table is yet to be released, and hence prices are not known yet.

Kyoto Table Brings Japanese Elegance
Thursday, September 11th, 2008 |Tags: Furniture, Japanese Designs, Kyoto Table, Tables

If you have ever been to Japan, or even watched Japanese homes, you would know that they usually have low-rise furniture and the decor usually looks minimalist. This is partly due to the fact that the country is always prone to earthquakes. However, the furniture looks not only minimalist but also chic and elegant, because it is low-rise. The Kyoti Table is inspired by these elements of minimalism, low-rise designs and of course elegance. This could be used as an attractive centerpiece.
It is available in different lengths and the opening tops give you access to some valuable additional storage. It also allows you to hide anything small, for example chargers, remotes, magazines, phone books etc. Any such thing on the table would always result in clutter. The tables come ion chocolate, wenge, pure white and textured white finishes and cost $984.99 each except the Textured White, which costs $789.99

Rough Diamonds: Pimped Up Furniture Collection by Lee Broom
Thursday, September 11th, 2008 |Tags: Armchair, Chair, Corner girl, diamonds, Lee Broom, London Design Festival, Luminaire Berger, Milan furniture Fair, Neo Neon, neon lights, rough diamonds

Diamonds are forever and how could we possible go through a day without being near them. This seems to have been in the mind of designer Lee Broom when he presented a line of furniture, titled Rough Diamonds. The Art Furniture collection presented at the London Design Festival is created with the intention of making a melange of the vintage and the modern. Lee strived to accentuate the beauty of each of the ancient pieces by imbibing a piece of contemporary design into it, creating a hybrid that would be in fashion within a modern decor, too.
The leather armchair with the lights, Club Chair, does appear as though it has been splattered with sparkling diamonds and the same look is achieved by the Corner Girl and Side Show (though sitting on these two pieces may prove difficult!) Bright on Bistro and Luminaire Berger have been outlined with neon lights, reminiscent of Lee’s debut collection, Neo Neon. The collection, which also made an appearance at the 2008 Milan furniture Fair, has been sold to New York, Paris, London, Kuwait and Las Vegas.

Every office needs a great secretary desk. It is not only offices but also houses, which need such desks where you could manage your files, books, stationary and other such goods. However, though many such products exist in the market, they all lack the beauty and chicness that must go along with a piece of furniture like that. The lines of the desk are so sensual that in a corner, you might mistake it to be almost feminine.
Konstantin Grcic who designed this lockable Secretary desk is a real genius. It has a writing surface of black leather, and offers a sensual pleasure for your skin and eyes. It takes you back to a different era. If you get this table to adorn your office or home, you can be rest assured that you will have a very pleasant and charming ambiance.
