Enigma Single Blade Ceiling Fan from Fanimation: Gorgeous!
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 |Tags: Enigma, fan, Fanimation, Single blade ceiling Fan
In this age of in-wall concealed air conditioning systems, a ceiling fan is a mere prop intended to beautify a room, much like a wall painting, rather than to serve any real purpose. It seemed that designers had also run out of ideas to make a fan a more desirable installation, and along comes an enigma.
The Enigma is a single blade fan from Fanimation that goes beyond all expectations one could have of a ceiling fan. The design of the fan is strangely beautiful and hypnotic, with its curved solo blade appearing to slash through the air in all fury to prove its worthiness next to the traditional triple-bladed fans. Enigma is also available in two models- with a light enclosed within its centre or without. You can choose to buy the Enigma in different colours: opt for the subtly sleek steel-gray finish or the magnificently colourful melange.

Le Clochard: Cardboard Bedding by SNURK to Help the Homeless
Saturday, September 27th, 2008 |Tags: Cardboard Bedding, Homeless, housing project, Le Clochard, snurk

Sleeping under cardboard boxes during the chill of the night on a wet and quiet side street can be a chilling experience. Most of us would never have experienced this, and would have no idea how difficult it is to still the cold from creeping into the bones and reminding you every second that Death is just a step away.
SNURK has taken a step towards helping homeless people who have experienced this numbing fear, and continue to experience it night after night. In an attempt to increase more awareness about the homeless and receive some funding to help get the homeless off the streets, SNURK has designed a cotton bedding set that looks like cardboard boxes. Named Le Clochard, the income generated from selling this product would help SNURK set up several housing projects to help youngsters on the street find work or education.
Sleeping under Le Clochard may make you look like you are homeless, but you are still going to be snugly warm and comfortable. Like their tagline says, you can buy Le Clochard from SNURK so that a homeless person doesn’t have to freeze to death sleeping under a cardboard box.

Appliances all through the house and even in the office setting have to blend in with the background and become a part of the decor that has been painstakingly accomplished. Sometimes, it is hard to find certain appliances that seem to be just right for the style that you have favoured. Perhaps it has been difficult to find the right table lamp.

Knife Sharpener Concept Allows You to Use Your Knife Efficiently
Sunday, September 14th, 2008 |Tags: ABS, Knife Sharpener, Knives, PVC

Knives are funny. If they are blunt, they can actually cause your victim more pain before they set sail to the pearly gates. However, if you use your knife for other boring purposes like chopping meat or vegetables in the kitchen, a blunt knife can make you wish you went to pearly gates yourself sooner than you would have otherwise wanted to. The Knife Sharpener concept helps you sharpen your knife and that too how!
It has a sliding sharpening mechanism makes things easy and the mechanism inside will automatically adjust to the curvature of the blade and is simple and fast. The ABS has a protective metallic skin that also looks good. The fact that the Knife Sharpener concept is made of PVC makes it all the more interesting. So next time you wish your knives were sharper, wish that this concept got manufactured sooner.

FormTank Unveils 2d3d Tables
Friday, September 12th, 2008 |Tags: 2d3d, FormTank, Industrial Design, Metal Origami, Tables

We have always been covering interesting furniture designs and this has to be one of the most interesting we have covered so far. FormTank recently launched 2d3d tables, and is a London based design company. The table looks slightly industrial, and quite beautiful. The table is cut from a single sheet of steel and is then folded into a position as can be seen in the final product.
This may remind you of metal origami and is sustainable and also reduces transportation and manufacturing costs. Very little steel that is used is discarded and you could be rest assured that you are not harming the environment with this stylish and industrial looking table. The table appears neat, clean and is ergonomic and would accentuate the chicness of your space. The table is yet to be released, and hence prices are not known yet.

Jeriko House Prefabs For Customized Homes
Friday, September 12th, 2008 |Tags: Architecture, Customized Homes, Jeriko Designs, Jeriko House Prefabs, Prefabs

Prefab homes are really catching up these days and people have been busy assembling their own houses from pieces pre-ordered. Though it might sound funny or even non-functional, it seems to work with a number of people. One of the eminent prefab developers is the Louisiana based Jeriko designs and they manufacture a self-branded line of homes, and they call them the Jeriko House Prefabs. These homes are sustainable, and can be easily customized. Though it has been slow to catch up in urban areas, especially due to space constraints, suburbs have witnessed a boom in prefab homes.
The Jeriko Jude house for example is a unique prefab house that has 3 bedrooms, high ceilings, and cool amenities and of course is sustainable and green conscious. This could come as great news to people who don’t like being coerced by builders, architects and others in to designing their homes in a professional way and lose the customized touch that every customer needs. These are the kind of houses that live with you but would never grow up. Jeriko House really seems to be the coolest prefab home building company around, for now.

Be a Hermit on House on Wheels, the XBO Way!
Monday, September 1st, 2008 |Tags: 70ºN Arkitektur, Architecture, Estate, Mobile XBO

Space crunch was the problem and Skyscrapers was the solution! It must have started as a design that later became a reality. One such path breaking design claims to provide “a room of one’s own” in the current scenario. If the design for XBO Mobile Structure takes over, then the face of real estate industry will change significantly.
The design on offer also controls the amount you spend on your lifestyle, quite literally. The designers have used common sense and designed such a small house that one has to let go off one’s consumerist lifestyle and live on bare minimum like a hermit. To enjoy a clutter free experience, one will have limit one’s desires to escape being an “economical prisoner”, as 70ºN Arkitektur puts it.

The XBO Mobile Structure is actually mobile and can be taken anywhere you and your partner choose to traverse. It consists of two movable parts and has a total of 36 square meters of space, enough to fit in two souls.

David Tonkinson’s Memory Device For Viewing Images And Videos
Sunday, August 31st, 2008 |Tags: Cellphones, Concepts, David Tonkinson, Images, Memory tank, Videos

Sometimes it so happens that we really want to view images in a better way, especially those that are taken using the cellphone. However, until now, there wasn’t a specialized device to watch images and media sent as messages through cellphones. Now, The Memory Tank designed by David Tonkinson intends to change all that. The device, which is still at a conceptual stage would not only receive images and media from cellphones but also store and play them.
You could keep them in your living room or probably elsewhere in the house where it can be seen easily. You can store, view and enjoy photographs taken during journeys and you could play the videos as well. The best feature has to be the four screens, which means people, can sit all around the Memory Tank. It has a keypad that helps you send text messages and also images and media to other cellphones. Though not available at the moment, it definitely would be a very interesting product if it ever gets manufactured.

Trampoline Coffee Table: How High Can You Jump on This?
Saturday, August 30th, 2008 |Tags: Alberto Bonomi, Table, toy, trampoline, Trampoline Coffee Table

It always infuriated me when I wasn’t allowed to climb onto chairs and tables and jump up and down to my heart’s content. Slightly older, I understand the impracticality of the desire to jump on the dinner table, but like old habits old desires die hard. The Trampoline Coffee Table must have been created for all the hyperactive kids and the adults who never grew out of that crazy desire. Designed by Alberto Bonomi, this coffee table has a hollow centre which houses a trampoline.
Bonomi reasons that tables need not have a continuous surface since drinks are always placed on the edge, and incorporating a trampoline seems like a good idea. I definitely agree with him; the Trampoline Coffee Table looks like something cheeky that wouldn’t look out of place in a house full of kids (or kid-like adults). The only unappealing thing about the table is that the table is sold at a whopping $4500. If you still desire this piece you can buy them at Greener Grass Design, or you could buy an electric saw for much lesser and cut a hole in your table and attach a trampoline.
