Our kitchens are where we take all the beauty and succulence that nature has given us to try and make it taste even better. Something so connected with nature should, then, perhaps look less like giants hunks of steel.

The Fruit of Life is a kitchen inspired by an apple tree. Designer Hieu Tranngoc and Hao Tran envisioned an apple tree laden with ripe fruits ready to be plucked and consumed. The kitchen concept includes a mini fridge, microwave oven, closet and, most importantly, an electric cooking top. It also has with it, the added bonus of an LCD screen with which you can connect to the internet and access cooking tips and recipes while in your kitchen itself. Apart from looking sleek, the Fruit of Life kitchen concept is also very practical. The curves and continuous lines of the design hide closets for kitchen necessities such as cutlery.

Turkish designer Fatih Can Sarıöz does not just worry about making his designs beautiful and practical. He makes artistic creations that are imbibed into everyone’s lives, becoming an uindispensable part of it. His latest design of a dinner table set that sets an atmosphere of a family within their own protective cocoon is testimony to this fact.

Industrial and interior designer Sarıöz’s dining table set, named Kure, appears like a shiny sphere which blossoms opens into a dining table with overhead light and six matching chairs. The roof-part of the Kure which slides up to open the sphere encloses within its centre lights for the enclosure, and the base is also fitted with dimly glowing blue lights. The chairs can also be pulled away for an intimate seating arrangement without the barrier of a table between family and friends. The Kure is a great idea when it comes to saving space and also looks chic enough to be sitting inside the mess of a futuristic space-ship.

Coox Cooking Table: Cook Anywhere

Coox Cooking Table

Restaurants where the Chef cooks right in front of the diners are in style because cooking is such an important part of the eating process. They say the person who cooks gets more out of the whole deal and gets much more satisfaction out of eating the delicacies. That is, of course, if the cook is apt at not burning the food. Cooking anywhere you want also seems to be becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity, especially with people sharing house more and more often.

An Electrolux table, Coox, designed by Antoine Lebrun is designed in such a way that users can cook upon it and it can be used anywhere in the house. It can even become a part of your usual dinner table so that food can be cooked right in front of your guests for an intensive dining experience. The table includes a cutting board, set apart from the cooking top and appears to work via electricity.

The table can be wheeled anywhere and also has adjustable height for your comfort. It could even be used outdoors, during camping trips and backyard parties. The concept was designed with the theme ‘flexibility for diverse and complex generation’. If this goes into production, the sleek table would definitely become a big hit.

Adam Brodowski Designs the Sook: A Futuristic Kitchen Assistant

Sook

Designing futuristic kitchens have been an area of interest for many talented designers. Adam Brodowski seems to like staying connected when he is in the kitchen, and hence, has created the “Sook” a wireless kitchen assistant concept. The Sook Cut can measure weight and moisture of the ingredients being cut/chopped on the board and is more like a real assistant in flesh and blood, except that it doesn’t talk out loud. The Sook Cut transmits the information to the Sook Touch to generate a recipe. The Sook Touch lets you touch and drag to display and share your recipes. Thus you do not have to run to your PC every time you need a recipe. You can also discard all those boring recipe books stashed in the cupboard.

Interestingly, the design lets you stay in touch with your friends on social networking websites with the help of the Internet. The most interesting feature of the design has to be the electronic tongue, which tastes the food, thanks to the sensors and examines if the ingredients are mixed properly and if anything has to be added. If you would like to know how your mother-in-law always ends up making better apple pie than you, just place some near the Sook Dock, and then you will get all the secret ingredients listed out, thanks to the RFID scanner.

Sook

So much for your mother-in-law’s meanness! Adam must be years ahead of us to think about all the features that you may need in a kitchen. However, like most concepts, this might take a while to be manufactured, or if Adam isn’t lucky, it never might get manufactured.

Electrolux Flatshare Fridge a Must When Living with Gluttonous Friends

Monday, September 15th, 2008 |

Tags: , , , ,

Thinking back to your college days will probably remind you of moments when you were kicked out of class for snoozing (because you simple had to be there at the Free Beers party) or of all the wedgies you received from your flatmates. Unless prompted, you wouldn’t think of all the arguments you had because someone nicked the last piece of pie your friend was saving (most probably because it was you who did it). The years of bickering over who the last bottle of beer belongs to may soon be over with the creation of the Electrolux Flatshare Fridge.

Designed by Stefan Butchberger from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna for the Annual Electrolux Design Lab competition, the Flatshare Fridge is intended at keeping the peace between flatmates who share the same fridge. The fridge contains individual compartments that give each student the same amount of space for bottles, eggs and veggies. The entry of a new flatmate need not be unwelcome either, because another unit can simply be added on top. I just hope Stefan thought of adding locks on each unit; I wouldn’t trust my flatmates to keep their hands from my pies!

Komodo Kamado: Ceramic Grills for the Perfect Barbecue

Monday, September 15th, 2008 |

Tags: , , , ,

Ceramic grills are known to give the best taste to whatever it is that you are cooking, but some of the designs out there have serious flaws that hinder your cooking and may have people wondering if you know how to cook at all! It isn’t right to take such insults when all the blame can be thrown on your ancient ceramic grill. After reading the extensive amount of complaints by ceramic grill users, Komodo Kamado, the perfect grill, has been brought into existence by its creators.

Komodo Kamado is the only ceramic cooker that uses actual insulation to ensure that the merest amount of fuel is used, ending up with food that has much less moisture loss and shrinkage. Temperature of the cooker is controlled by precision air flow regulation. High temperatures of 180º-800ºf are safely possible because the cooker is made with refractory materials. What’s more, the grills appear shiny and stylish and would look great sitting in your backyard!
