Rosta: Bike with Comfortable Seating Position
Thursday, September 25th, 2008 |Tags: bicycle, bike, cycling, exercise, Rosta

A bike ride is always a pleasure. You are going slow enough to watch the kids running by and smell the flowers alongside the path. But you have overdone yourself; you are tired, your back and neck are aching, not to mention that very sensitive part of your body that is sitting upon the seat. You really need to change your position but it is impossible to do so.
The Rosta has been designed with this discomfort in mind. The bicycle is designed so that the user is seated in the most comfortable position on the bike, which turns out to be lying halfway upon the bike. This position takes most of the strain off your upper body, relieving you from those deadly back aches. With comfort as the highest priority, the design of the bike came up after intensive research into this.
The Rosta also looks extremely sleek and unlike any other bike on the road. It appears as though it is a cross between a futuristic bike and an exercise bicycle. Whatever may be the design, the cost of manufacturing this would definitely be very high.

Polygon: Music Player Infused Bike
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 |Tags: bicycle, bike, Music Player, Polygon, Reindy allendra

People can do anything to take their music with them everywhere they go. it is almost as though music sets the rhythm for our brain waves, in turn affecting the way we feel and react to situations. Reindy Allendra has incorporated his love and need for music into his bike design, the Polygon, coming up with something that looks like a mix between a music player and a bicycle. Like most of us, Reindy believes music plays a great influence on our lives and is a part of our lifestyle.
The Polygon appears quite cool and futuristic in black and white with a design to wow you. All sleek lines and curves, the steering wheel has a display attached which includes the music player. What’s more, the battery for the player is charged by the wheel cycle, ensuring that your player will beat out its rhythm for you so long as you keep cycling. Excess energy is stored for later use. This bike just might kick off real fast if it gets into production.

Gary Fisher Designs El ranchero, A Cool Bike
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 |Tags: bike, Concept, El ranchero, Gary Fisher, Multi-Purpose Vehicle

If you stay in the middle of arid mid-west, you would know how important it is to own a bike. You may have to ride it not just for fun, but to get the groceries, to drop your kid bro to school a couple of miles away and a host of other things. Gary Fisher has thus designed El Ranchero, which according to him is designed to ‘do things’. A lot of things we suppose. Though the bike is still in the concept stages, the bike is cool enough to make us want more of it.
The bike has been designed in a long way includes an extra saddle, bar, and foot rests for a child at the back. It also comes with detachable bags and a double kickstand. Fisher claims it can be used ijn an urban setting, which we doubt. Looking at the design, it becomes rather clear that it is a chic design but meant for the rugged outdoors and rural areas far from the hustle-bustle of the town.

Zigo Leader: Four in One Bike for Active Women with Kids
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 |Tags: bike, child pod, eercise, Four in One, kids, mothers, weight, women, zigo, Zigo Leader

New mothers are usually so worried about what might happen to their children on the road that they cancel any plans to go out. Their life on the road, those pleasant bike rides that would help so much in shedding all that weight you put on during the pregnancy, has to be put on hold till the child is old enough to ride a bicycle built for two. Zigo was so worried about this forced procrastination by mothers that they decide to build a bike that would solve all these problem. And thus was born the Zigo Leader.
The Zigo Leader is an exercise machine-cum-bicycle that includes a Child Pod up front into which you can safely attach your baby, so that you are free from carrying the baby uncomfortably on your back or at your chest, or even strapped precariously to the back of a normal bicycle. The Child Pod can also be used as stroller, when unhooked from the rest of the bike, in case you are tired of cycling and want to take a slow walk around the park. What’s more, you can go Child Pod free (bike sans stroller) for that quick dash to the stores for more baby products, or when you just need to run away from a bawling baby!

Public Bike: Cool Bike for Tourists
Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 |Tags: Anke Salomon, Berlin, big wheel, bike, Public Bike, Tourists

There are bikes made especially for people in their old age who have never learnt to balance on two wheels. There are unicycles for the adventurous. We recently heard about the eco-friendly bike which is completely recyclable. It seems just having a bicycle is not enough, it must cool and unique, different from the rest. The Public Bike designed by Anke Salomon has been made especially with the tourists coming to Berlin in mind.
The Public Bike appears a single big double wheel sitting quite close together. The steering for the Public Bike includes brakes and keeping cameras and other such things tourists usually carry, a small luggage space has also been provided in the bicycle. Like other bikes, the Public Bike includes pedals to propel the bicycle forward. The Public Bike does appear very cool and innovative, but it may never move onto the production phase from the concept phase. It seems unlikely that any tourist would place themselves in this unusual contraption while out sightseeing.

Innervision: Recycled Bike Designed by Matt Clark
Saturday, August 9th, 2008 |Tags: bike, Innervision, Matt Clark, plastic, recycle

If you thought that bicycles are eco-friendly only because they are not fuel-powered and are au naturel running on human energy, then you have obviously not heard of Matt Clark’s bike. The sleek b/w Innervision, designed by Clark, has a main frame made from two layers of polypropylene and is completely recyclable. The prototype has been made from fresh plastic but Clark insists it would be manufactured from plastic waste once the design is patented.
The dual nature of the main frame lends the bike rigidity and the lucky few who have tested it, from Bike Commuters, swears it offers a smooth ride. The use of plastic reduces rusting hazards and, more importantly, reduces the cost of production by eliminating the heat requirements necessary for aluminium frames and the number of labour required. Additionally, the easy detachability of the parts of the bike means it can be packed away from prying eyes when not being used for a long duration of time.

Since the bike would be made from recycled material, affordability is extremely high. However, use of polypropylene may cause a problem in the long run since it is liable to degradation from prolonged exposure to UV rays from sunlight, unless an anti-oxidant is used.
