EDF Archives Center: Eco-Friendly Building

The best thing about glass buildings is that they reflect the natural beauty of the world outside it. But how interesting can that be when these reflections only show us more high-rise buildings? We can exactly reconstruct the adjacent building to make it look like a forest, can we? The EDF archives centre has an exterior made of patterned mirror that seems to reflect natures best. The building stands on almost barren land and yet seems to be host to greenery. Designed by LAN Architecture, France, the EDF archives centre stands as an appeal to everyone to care about the environment that we are parasites to.

The five storey building of the EDF archive centre is insulated by double concrete. It includes a waste water treatment system for the regular supply of fresh water since the building sits so far away from any links to civilisation. The building does not just have a facade of eco-friendliness, but the incorporations in the building itself make it eco-friendly. Take into consideration the photovoltaic panels and the hot air pumps that generate energy within the building, making it self-sufficient. Hopefully, many more architectural firms would be inspired by these ‘reflections of nature’.
