Rendezvous with Punkaj Kumar Manav: A Sculpturist

Those who can read the hidden meaning behind sculptures can explore much more here. To my non-surprise Punkaj Kimar Manav, the sculpture artist doesn’t believe in making efforts for publicity, thereby spreading a word about his artistic skills. The generous soul has faith that word of mouth is adequate to earn him worthy recognition. And this is what has made him reach here.

With his fingers sopping in clay, Punkaj has an unbeatable flavor to give vent o his imagination. It was in nature -“The living garment of God”, as Goethe called it – that the artist found an ideal subject to express the romantic theme of the soul in union with natural world. He is enthralled by nature, hunts for the imperative, the textures that exist in organic unity and harmony. His love for travel comes out as an aesthetic expression in Ceramics, which he believes is the ideal material for his art.

The aesthetic mood of the artist does not aim to depict the landscape as pictorial but romanticizes with the idea of playing around with forms existing in nature by personifying them. His figurative expressions mélange with natural forms to give a surreal depiction of nature which is impulsive and not portrayed with any fixed or defined ideas.

Having done B.F.A & M.F.A (Sculpture) from Delhi College of Arts, Punkaj proved that his artistic creations are not only unique but remarkable. He always remained a visible identity in various shows and exhibitions happening in niche industry viz. Annual Art Exhibition College of Arts–1997,1998,1999,2000,2001,2002, Bachealor’s Show (AIFACS) 2000, Master’s 02 (Lalit Kala Academy ) 2001, Vyakt Art Gallery(Hauz Khas) 2003, Bharat Bhawan (Bhopal) 2003, Navsar (Habitat Center) N-Delhi 2004, Heart & Soul (N.Delhi) 2004, A journey (Lalit Kala Academy) 2005, A Mystic journey (Lalit Kala Academy) 2006, Independence day celebration show (President House New Delhi) 2006 and many others.
